The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

In his congratulatory message, Tunji-Ojo described the Independence Anniversary as a reminder of Nigeria’s resilience, unity, and enduring spirit. He urged citizens to uphold the patriotic values that have held the nation together since 1960 and called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Thursday, September 25, 2025, held its annual Spelling Bee Competition at the Council Multipurpose Hall, Foke, with outstanding performances from both primary and secondary school pupils.

The event, which drew wide participation from schools across the council, was a platform to showcase the intelligence, confidence, and determination of young learners.

Representing the Chairperson of Egbe-Idimu LCDA was Mrs. Ayinde Adebukola, wife of the Vice Chairman, while the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Idris Balogun, also made a brief appearance to encourage and inspire the contestants during the keenly contested competition.

At the end of the event, the following pupils emerged winners:

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has set a fresh education agenda for the council, pledging more innovative initiatives to uplift the sector while celebrating the brilliance of pupils and students at the 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminary Competition.

Speaking at the event held on Thursday, 25th September 2025 at the Council Secretariat, Hon. Rosiji noted that education remains the bedrock of sustainable development and assured that her administration will continue to prioritize policies and programmes that encourage creativity, discipline, and academic excellence. She stressed that in the coming months, more innovative projects will spring up to further support the growth of learning across Ojokoro.

The Chairman recalled that only yesterday, her administration flagged off the distribution of free customized exercise books to all public schools in Ojokoro LCDA as part of a “Welcome Back to School” package, aimed at supporting pupils and easing the financial burden on parents.

Hon. Rosiji also used the occasion to advise pupils to shun truancy, cultism, and other social vices that could derail their future. According to her, “While spelling words correctly is important, what is more important is spelling out a good future for yourselves through discipline, focus, and hard work.”

After much drilling in spellings, the competition produced winners. In the Primary School Category, Miss Biobaku Oluwaferami from Ebenezer Primary School emerged winner, while Miss Odeh Anabel of Vetland Primary School came 1st runner-up, and Master Akinduro Ezekiel from Gbeleyi Primary School took the 2nd runner-up position.

In the Secondary School Category, Master Taiwo Daniel from Ijaiye-Ojokoro High School clinched the top prize, with Miss Mustapha Victoria of Vetland Grammar School as 1st runner-up, and Miss Ismail Royhannah as 2nd runner-up.

The winners, who were decorated with medals and presented prizes, will represent Ojokoro LCDA at the state level. The competition ended on a joyous note, with cheers from pupils and teachers celebrating their colleagues’ and students' achievements.

In his closing remark, the Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Tajudeen Quadri, appreciated the Chairman for her unwavering support to the education sector. He commended the teachers and pupils for their commitment and urged the winners to aim for the grand prize at the state level — the prestigious “One-Day Governor” title.

Education once again took center stage in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area as the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, restated her administration’s commitment to raising the standard of learning across the council.

Hon. Rosiji gave the assurance on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Ebenezer Primary School during the official flag-off of the distribution of free customized exercise books and pens to pupils in all public schools within the LCDA.

According to her, the initiative was not only designed to welcome pupils back to school after the long break but also to motivate them to embrace learning with greater seriousness. She noted that education remains the most reliable key to unlocking success and described the exercise as both a relief to parents and a direct investment in the future of Ojokoro.

Welcoming the LGI and corps members, Hon. Rosiji commended them for their dedication and contributions to community development. She described corps members as a vital force that brings “energy, fresh ideas, and a spirit of service” to the council area.

Rosiji Oluyemisi Adenike, has enforced a directive from the Lagos State House of Assembly to resolve the contentious Abattoir Meat Market land dispute, bringing relief to the business community.

Acting on a mandate from Hon. Olotu Emmanuel, Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Rosiji oversaw the immediate removal of "trespassing" signage at the market, paving the way for proper documentation and regularization of market occupancy without fear of intimidation or unlawful eviction.

Addressing elated traders, Hon. Rosiji gave unequivocal assurances that neither contractors nor the Lagos State Agricultural Land Holding Authority would be allowed to forcefully remove or harass market occupants. "The House of Assembly has spoken," she declared. "As Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, I will ensure these directives are obeyed to the letter. No one will disrupt your livelihoods." She stressed no structures would be demolished, urging traders to continue their legitimate businesses fearlessly.

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has assured residents of comprehensive road rehabilitation across the council area once the rainy season subsides.

Rosiji gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, at the monthly meeting of the Community Development Committee (CDC), held at the CDC Secretariat.

She explained that road grading during the rainy season would not yield sustainable results due to the adverse impact of heavy downpours. However, she promised that several roads across Ojokoro would be graded immediately after the rains.

The council boss also highlighted the council’s ongoing investments in education and empowerment. She revealed that Ojokoro LCDA currently runs 11 Adult Literacy Centres, all offering free services, and encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to become literate.

Rosiji further urged youths, teenagers, and adults to enroll in the LCDA’s vocational and ICT centres, noting that skill acquisition and digital knowledge remain critical in today’s fast-evolving world.

“These are some of the ways our administration is empowering residents and improving lives across the LCDA,” she said.

Earlier in his remarks, the CDC Chairman, Barr. Samuel Alabi, commended the Council Chairman for her active participation in the meeting alongside councillors and senior council officials. He, however, called for improved communication between the council and community leaders to ensure prompt dissemination of information about government activities and programmes.

Alabi expressed confidence in the present administration’s capacity to deliver, especially in the area of road rehabilitation, which he described as a pressing need in the community.

Congratulating Muslims across Nigeria and the diaspora, the government urged the faithful to emulate the virtues of the Prophet, including peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. The statement highlighted the occasion as an opportunity for Nigerians of all religious backgrounds to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country while supporting efforts toward national unity and development.

Adenike Oluyemisi Rosiji, has praised the Federal Government for the rollout of the Household Prosperity Empowerment (HOPE) Initiative, which delivered ₦75,000 cash grants to vulnerable households in the area. The distribution ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Ojokoro LCDA Secretariat, marking another plus in efforts to alleviate poverty and strengthen grassroots development.

The programme, implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction,  the National Cash Transfer Office, the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, the Lagos State Cash Transfer Office, and the World Bank, targeted beneficiaries selected from the National Social Register (NSR) — a comprehensive database identifying poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria.

Each beneficiary received a customized ATM card preloaded with ₦75,000, providing immediate financial relief amid the economic challenges following the removal of fuel subsidy. The initiative also aims to foster human capacity development and empower recipients to improve their livelihoods sustainably.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Rosiji expressed deep gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and its partnering agencies for their dedication to empowering communities at the grassroots level. The Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Akinola Idowu, on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, officially launched the distribution of customised Conditional Cash Transfer ATM cards to residents of the council area.

The initiative, held at the Orile-Agege LCDA Secretariat in Arigbanla, is a collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the National Social Investments Programme Agency (NSIPA), the National Cash Transfer Office, and the Lagos State Cash Transfer Office.

In his address, Hon. Idowu described the programme as a beacon of renewed hope for the most vulnerable households, adding that it goes beyond financial support to empower residents, restore dignity, and strengthen livelihoods.

“This programme is not just about financial assistance; it is about empowering our people, restoring dignity, and strengthening livelihoods in Orile-Agege,” he said.

Beneficiaries, selected from the National Social Register (NSR), received ATM cards preloaded with financial support ranging from ₦20,000 to ₦75,000. A total of 965 beneficiaries benefited in this first batch, with distribution commencing at 9:00 a.m.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mojeed Dawuda, LGA Coordinator for LASOCU, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing poverty and ensuring the Renewed Hope Agenda translates into tangible benefits for households across the nation.

Hon. Idowu commended the Federal Government and partner agencies for their support and assured residents of Orile-Agege LCDA that his administration remains dedicated to programmes that uplift the vulnerable and foster community development.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has dissolved his cabinet following a performance appraisal of his appointees, signaling a strategic move to revamp his administration for greater efficiency and growth. The announcement was made on Monday, September 1, 2025, during a valedictory State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Minna.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor Bago explained that the decision was based on an evaluation of his commissioners’ performance against the administration’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). While some appointees exceeded expectations, others fell short, prompting the need to "rejig" the team in alignment with the vision of the New Niger Agenda.

“Some had exceeded the Key Performance Indicator of the administration, while a few others did not. It was also discovered that some have strength in other areas, and the administration needs to be rejigged to bring about the desired growth and development,” Bago stated. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the strengths of his appointees to reposition the government for optimal service delivery.

The governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their contributions, describing their collective efforts as instrumental to the progress of the administration. He added that some of the former commissioners may be reappointed to new roles or redeployed to portfolios better suited to their strengths.

Despite the dissolution, key principal officers retained their positions to ensure continuity in governance. These include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other senior aides directly attached to the governor’s office.

The dissolved cabinet was inaugurated in 2023 at the inception of Bago’s administration. As Niger State awaits the announcement of a new cabinet, political stakeholders and residents anticipate a reinvigorated government poised to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the remaining term.

Nigeria is mourning the loss of one of its most distinguished law enforcement leaders, Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja following a brief illness. The news was confirmed by his family, who described him as a committed patriot and reformer who served the nation with distinction.

Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State*, Arase’s illustrious career spanned over three decades, during which he left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s security and development landscape. He graduated with a degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University in 1980, joined the Nigeria Police Force in December 1981, and later obtained a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos. His academic excellence extended to advanced studies at the National Defence College, making him a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Arase served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police*, appointed in April 2015 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan. During his tenure, he introduced key reforms that revolutionized policing, including the establishment of the Intelligence Response Team, the Complaint Response Unit to tackle police misconduct, and Safer Highway Patrols, which improved traveler safety nationwide. He also issued a groundbreaking directive banning officers from searching citizens' phones, strengthening civil liberties and public trust in the police force.

In January 2023, Arase was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) by former President Muhammadu Buhari, where he championed merit-based recruitment, transparency in promotions, and professionalism. Even after retiring in June 2024, his contributions to election security, neutrality, and police reforms continued to shape the Force.

Beyond his policing career, Arase was deeply committed to education and youth empowerment. Through the Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation (SEAF), he awarded scholarships to children of deceased police officers and students from underserved communities. In 2025, SEAF supported 29 beneficiaries across disciplines like Medicine, Engineering, Criminology, and Business Administration—a testament to his belief in nurturing Nigeria’s future leaders.

Arase also represented Nigeria internationally, participating in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Namibia, further solidifying his reputation as a globally respected law enforcement officer. His leadership extended to roles such as Principal Staff Officer to three former IGPs, Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence.

Tributes have poured in from across the nation, with colleagues, public figures, and citizens describing him as a principled leader, reformer, and patriot. Many credit him as one of the most effective IGPs in recent history, with his tenure marked by integrity, service, and excellence. His legacy lives on through the many lives he impacted and the reforms he instituted.

Solomon Arase is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course. “Nigeria has lost a rare gem,” said a senior police officer. “He bridged generations with his wisdom and dedication.”

Tensions eased and hopes lifted at Ojokoro LCDA Secretariat on Thursday, 29th August 2025, as Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Rosiji, Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, met with stakeholders of the Abattoir Meat Market to chart a new course for peace, order, and progress.

For months, the market had been a theatre of uncertainty—demolition threats, simmering rivalries, and rumors swirling among traders. But yesterday, the council boss set the record straight: the market, she affirmed, belongs to the people of Ojokoro.

 “Ojokoro LCDA’s duty to defend traders and their market is beyond question. We will not falter in safeguarding your economic lifeline,” Rosiji declared, drawing nods of approval across the Council Hall.

Hon. Rosiji recounted swift interventions she had spearheaded: from correspondence with the Divisional Police Officer to directives for erecting signboards boldly stating the council’s ownership of the market land. She also firmly dismissed claims that she had deployed thugs to the market. “Our actions have always been lawful, transparent, and in defense of your livelihoods,” she assured the traders.

The Chairman urged market leaders to set aside rivalries, maintain peace, and foster cooperation. Environmental cleanliness, she added, would remain a top priority: “A market that feeds the people must also safeguard their health.”

One of the more sensitive issues raised was the selection of new market leadership. Hon. Rosiji called for the nomination of a new market chairman and executives, noting that the Iyaloja would be exempted from the election process to ensure fairness and neutrality.

Alhaja Salifat Oluyemi, the Iyaloja General of Ojokoro LCDA, echoed the Chairman’s concerns, especially regarding traders’ seeming indifference to the recent demolition threats. “Report challenges early—don’t wait until problems become crises,” she advised, pledging her full support for the council’s leadership.

Stakeholders also laid bare their grievances: from expired tenures to documentation irregularities and unresolved land disputes. Calls for better record-keeping, stronger coordination, and regular inspections dominated the discourse.

In the end, a collective agreement was reached—the Abattoir Meat Market will move forward in unity, with peace as its cornerstone.

Present at the meeting were key council executives and market representatives, including Vice Chairman Hon. Oyekunle Tunde, Majority Leader Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun. The handover ceremony, held on Thursday, 28th August 2025, signifies a major milestone in efforts to enhance healthcare services and improve community well-being.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Idowu Akinola expressed profound gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for its intervention, noting that the provision of Duty Cabins and the renovation of the healthcare facility would greatly enhance service delivery. He emphasized that healthcare workers would now enjoy improved accommodation, boosting their morale, efficiency, and response times. He further highlighted that the upgraded Orile Agege PHC, which serves thousands of residents within and beyond the community, is now better equipped to deliver essential services such as maternal and child care, immunization, and emergency response in a more enabling and patient-friendly environment.

She gave this assurance through the Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, who represented her at the 19th Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of CAN, held at Olorunsogo Baptist Church, Ojokoro.

The event, which was themed "Hallelujah," was presided over by the Chairman of CAN, Ojokoro LCDA Chapter, Pastor (Dr.) Clement Gbenga Coker. It brought together several clergy members, dignitaries, and residents in a vibrant atmosphere of praise, worship, and thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness over the years.
