OJOKORO LCDA, MINISTRY OF WORKS MOVE TO BEGIN GBELEYI–AMJE ROAD PROJECT IN ALAKUKO

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to infrastructural development as the council partnered with the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to commence the construction of the Gbeleyi–Amje Road in Alakuko.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ sensitization meeting held with residents and community leaders, the chairman commended the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for approving the road project as part of the constituency road development initiatives across the state.

Hon. Rosiji noted that the construction of the road would greatly improve movement, reduce flooding challenges, and enhance economic activities within the Alakuko axis and surrounding communities. She also urged residents to cooperate with engineers and contractors to ensure smooth execution of the project.

The lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Olotu, represented by Mr. Sanjo Ogunmoyede, commended the council chairman for her collaboration in facilitating the project and encouraged residents to support the construction team.

Also speaking, former Lagos Assembly member Ahmed Ipoola Omisore urged the community to cooperate with the contractor to ensure timely completion of the road.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ojokoro, Alhaji Jelili Oseni, described the project as a major development that would transform the outlook of the area.

Providing technical insight, the Resident Engineer for Ifako-Ijaiye/Ojokoro from the Ministry of Works, Engr. Kayode Awosile, representing the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, disclosed that the contract had been awarded to Visible Construction Limited.

He explained that the project would commence in days, starting with extensive drainage construction to address flooding along the road corridor stretching from Baale Animasaun to Amje Bus Stop, with interlocked paving, service ducts for telecommunications, and streetlights.

Engr. Awosile also appealed to residents whose properties fall within the road’s right-of-way to cooperate with officials to ensure smooth progress of the project.

Community leaders and residents at the meeting expressed appreciation to the council chairman and the state government for the long-awaited intervention expected to improve mobility and living conditions in the area.

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, on Friday 6th March,  swore in the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) and twelve Supervisory Councillors, urging them to work in unity and contribute their experience toward advancing development in the council area.

Speaking during the ceremony held at the council secretariat, the chairman described the swearing-in as a significant step in strengthening the administration’s governance structure.

She emphasized that effective leadership requires teamwork, dedication, and a strong commitment to public service.

Hon. Rosiji congratulated the appointees and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working diligently for the benefit of the people.

“Your appointments are positions of service and responsibility. I urge you to bring your wealth of experience to bear and work together in unity of purpose so that we can deliver on our mandate to the people of Ojokoro,” she said.

She assured residents that with the government now fully constituted, the council would intensify the implementation of developmental and people-centered programmes across the LCDA.

Mrs. Florence Campbell Lawal was sworn in as the Secretary to the Local Government, while twelve Supervisory Councillors also took the oath of office.

In his remarks, former member of the House of Representatives, James Owolabi, congratulated the appointees and urged them to cooperate with the chairman and discharge their duties diligently so that the people would be proud of their service at the end of their tenure.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including Emmanuel Olotu representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency II; APC Chairman in Ojokoro, Jelili Oseni; former council chairman HID Tijani; former APC Chairman Adewale Bello; APC chieftains Walnut Ipaye and Alhaja Adefolabi; as well as the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Usman Ipaye, and other councillors.

Security infrastructure in Ojokoro LCDA received a major boost on Tuesday as the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, rolled out five new patrol vehicles to enhance security operations across the council area.

The presentation, which took place at the council secretariat on December 9, 2025, saw four vehicles allocated to divisional police headquarters in the LCDA, while the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC) received one. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, was present to witness the handover.

Hon. Rosiji, who has consistently emphasized safety as a core priority of her administration, explained that the gesture was aimed at deepening security networks and improving the capacity of officers keeping the community safe.

According to her, no development initiative can thrive without a secure environment, stressing that the vehicles would significantly improve surveillance, visibility policing, and emergency response across Ojokoro.

The Chairman expressed appreciation to CP Olohundare for supporting the council’s security vision with his presence, noting that such collaboration reinforces the strong partnership between the Police and Ojokoro LCDA.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police commended Hon. Rosiji’s leadership, noting that the scale and quality of the vehicles provided place Ojokoro among the leading councils supporting grassroots security in Lagos.

He assured residents that the patrol vehicles would be used strictly within Ojokoro and not reassigned elsewhere, adding that the LCDA’s relative peace is a testament to the productive synergy between the council and security agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary divisions, the DPO of Ojokoro Division, CSP Ayeromu, applauded the council chairman for the intervention. He pledged that the vehicles would be used effectively to secure the LCDA.

In a vote of thanks, the Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, urged continued support from residents and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to deliver impactful governance.

The event attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, CDC and CDA executives, security officials, and residents who hailed the council chairman’s initiative as timely especially as the yuletide season approaches.

In a grand ceremony held at the council secretariat, Hon. Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, has launched a ₦100 million relief and empowerment package for residents, marking 100 days in office.

The package, designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship, includes ₦100,000 cash support for carefully selected beneficiaries across the seven wards of the LCDA. Additionally, 150 graduates of the Council's School of Vocational Studies received cash empowerment to kickstart their trades.

In her address, Hon. Rosiji emphasized her administration's commitment to prioritizing residents' welfare, stating, "We understand that the economy is biting hard on families, and as a government that listens and cares, we have designed this ₦100 Million Relief Package to provide direct financial assistance."

Hon. Rosiji also flagged off an Immunization Campaign at the Iwa Primary Health Centre, urging parents to vaccinate their children aged 0-5. This initiative is part of the State Government's effort to prevent and eradicate viral diseases.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including Hon. James Owolabi, former Member of the House of Representatives, who praised Hon. Rosiji's leadership and commitment to service delivery. And on Thursday, October 23, 2025, that calling was beautifully acknowledged as he was decorated with the “Most Outstanding NULGE Chairman in Lagos State” award - a feat that coincided with his birthday celebration, making the day one of double honour, gratitude, and inspiration.

The award, presented at the Eko Independence Patriot Award Ceremony held at Excellence Hotel, Ogba, was a fitting tribute to a man whose name has become synonymous with service, discipline, and commitment within the local government system.

As Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ojokoro Branch   and Chieftaincy Officer of Ojokoro LCDA,  Comrade Olaoti has redefined grassroots unionism through purposeful leadership and a people-first approach. Under his watch, NULGE Ojokoro has flourished in unity, advocacy, and impact.

The celebration continued later at Starlad Garden, Abule Egba, where friends, colleagues, and family members converged to honour the exemplary leader. The event was filled with music, laughter, and warm tributes that painted a vivid picture of a man deeply loved by his people.

Friends and Colleagues described him as a “leader with a listening ear,” one who has earned trust through empathy and results, a man whose quiet strength continues to inspire confidence among his peers and subordinates alike.

The Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ojokoro Branch, have commemorated the 2025 International Youth Day with a Stakeholders’ Youth Symposium and Panel Session. The event, themed “Local Youth Action for SDGs and Beyond,” brought together youth leaders, policymakers, educators, community stakeholders, and representatives of security and government agencies for an engaging discussion on youth participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representing the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, the Council Manager, Mrs. Mojisola Akinola, reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive development. She noted that several young residents are currently undergoing training at the council’s ICT Centres to acquire vital digital skills, while another group will soon graduate from the LCDA’s Vocational Training Centre after completing months of intensive, hands-on learning. These initiatives, she said, are deliberate efforts by the Rosiji-led administration to promote innovation, self-reliance, and economic independence among young people.

Mrs. Akinola also highlighted Ojokoro LCDA’s ongoing partnership with Net Zero to promote environmental sustainability and polyethylene waste recycling - an initiative that aligns with global SDG targets and reinforces the council’s commitment to a greener, cleaner community. Hon. Rosiji urged youth organizations to take the lead in combating social vices such as drug abuse and moral decay, reminding them that “true leadership begins with responsibility, discipline, and integrity.”

The Executive Coordinator of NYCN, Ojokoro Branch, Comrade Sulaimon Azeez, described the International Youth Day celebration as a moment for reflection and action. He stressed that achieving the SDGs depends on the creativity, participation, and resilience of young people. Azeez commended the Executive Chairman, the Lagos State NYCN leadership, and various partners for their continuous support, while recalling the success of the Unity Health Walk held earlier in the week as part of the Youth Week activities. He encouraged youths to remain united and focused in their pursuit of social progress and community development.

The Deputy Coordinator and Chairman of the Symposium Planning Committee, Prince Adetayo Adeniran, reminded participants that “the future belongs to the youth — and that future is now.” He urged them to embrace their potential, take ownership of community initiatives, and play proactive roles in achieving the SDGs and beyond.

The highlight of the event was an engaging panel session moderated by Ms. Ruth, featuring experts and thought leaders across youth development, education, and environmental sustainability. Panelists included Comrade Jamiu Ademosu (Director-General, Lagos Youth Institute), Mr. Agbotan Oluwatobi (Lecturer, Department of Social Sciences, Yaba College of Technology), and Mr. Ashade Abdusalam (Executive Director, Green Janitor). Discussions during the session focused on practical strategies for strengthening youth involvement in community development and sustainability, emphasizing innovation, civic responsibility, and environmental consciousness. The experts urged youths to move beyond advocacy to real action, initiating projects that would create measurable social impact.

In a powerful show of compassion and partnership, the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has teamed up with the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to deliver a free eye care outreach that brought smiles and clearer vision to hundreds of residents.

Held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Council Secretariat, the outreach offered free eye tests, treatments, and consultations to residents from Ojokoro and neighboring communities. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, to improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Rosiji expressed heartfelt appreciation to the partners for supporting the Council’s drive toward healthier communities. She noted that vision health is often neglected but remains critical to productivity and general well-being.

“Our eyes are windows to the world, and ensuring their health is a duty we owe our people,” she said. “This outreach reflects our belief that governance must touch lives directly and meaningfully.”

Also speaking, Lioness Oluwakemi Abimbola Eribake, District Governor of Lions Club International, District 404B2, lauded Ojokoro LCDA for its openness to partnership and community-oriented leadership. She encouraged residents to join the Lions Club to further strengthen local humanitarian impact, suggesting the establishment of a new chapter within the LCDA.

For Lion Are Lekan Owolabi, Grant Administrator of LCIF, the outreach exemplified the Club’s mission to serve. He recalled the organization’s support for Ojokoro during the 2023 flood disaster and reaffirmed their readiness to continue partnering on life-changing initiatives.

The outreach drew an impressive crowd, with residents trooping in early to access the free services provided by LASUTH’s medical team, led by Prof. Bola Adekoya, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology. Many beneficiaries left with free eyeglasses, medications, and renewed gratitude.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Akinola Mojisola, the Council Manager, commended the Chairman for her dedication to community service and applauded the partners for their humanitarian spirit. She urged participants to make the most of the opportunity and prioritize regular health check-ups.

The Ojokoro Local Council Development Area has received a commendation from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development for maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment. A team of delegates from the ministry, led by Mr. Akindele visited the LCDA on October 6, 2025, to conduct an environmental assessment and evaluation.

During the visit, the team inspected the environment, markets, refuse collection system, pest control profile, and other sanitary conditions of the LCDA. The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, was praised for her efforts in improving the general outlook of the environment through the Environmental Health Department.

However, the team noted an area for improvement at Ayemidun Market Kola, where poor refuse disposal was observed due to the inefficiency of the Private Sector Participation (PSP) Operator attached to that environment. The team urged the Council to write to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and copy the ministry to address this issue.

Hon. Rosiji commended the team for their visit and assessment, assuring that the Environmental Health Department would continue to work towards sanitizing the LCDA. This recognition highlights the Ojokoro LCDA's commitment to maintaining a clean environment, aligning with the government's vision for a healthier and more sustainable society.

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has reiterated her administration’s commitment to partnering with more agencies to bring meaningful development and economic empowerment to residents of the council.

The chairman, represented by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Ipaye Usman Idowu, stated this on Thursday, October 2, during the presentation of Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) loan cheques to beneficiaries at the council secretariat.

She described the initiative as a lifeline for entrepreneurs, artisans, and small business owners, stressing that such support helps to reduce unemployment, curb poverty, and uplift families at the grassroots. She urged the beneficiaries to see the loans as a seed that must be nurtured responsibly, by investing wisely and ensuring timely repayment.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of LSETF, Mrs. Feyisayo Alayande, praised Ojokoro LCDA for its collaboration, noting that it was the joint efforts of the council and the agency that made the initiative a reality for the people of Ojokoro.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mujidat Abdulkareem, expressed gratitude for the financial support, saying the loan would significantly boost her business. She also promised to repay promptly to enable others benefit from the scheme.

Present at the event was the Council's Legislators, some management staff of the council, officials from LSETF and the beneficiaries of the loan.

The cheque presentation was seen as another milestone in Lagos State’s efforts to empower citizens at the grassroots, with assurances from both LSETF and Ojokoro LCDA to continue driving initiatives that create opportunities and transform lives

The program, aimed at supporting public school pupils, is designed to ease the financial burden on parents while motivating children to take their education seriously.

Hon. Rosiji, accompanied by council legislators and management staff, personally handed out the materials to the delighted pupils, reinforcing her administration’s commitment to education. Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has set a fresh education agenda for the council, pledging more innovative initiatives to uplift the sector while celebrating the brilliance of pupils and students at the 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminary Competition.

Speaking at the event held on Thursday, 25th September 2025 at the Council Secretariat, Hon. Rosiji noted that education remains the bedrock of sustainable development and assured that her administration will continue to prioritize policies and programmes that encourage creativity, discipline, and academic excellence. She stressed that in the coming months, more innovative projects will spring up to further support the growth of learning across Ojokoro.

The Chairman recalled that only yesterday, her administration flagged off the distribution of free customized exercise books to all public schools in Ojokoro LCDA as part of a “Welcome Back to School” package, aimed at supporting pupils and easing the financial burden on parents.

Hon. Rosiji also used the occasion to advise pupils to shun truancy, cultism, and other social vices that could derail their future. According to her, “While spelling words correctly is important, what is more important is spelling out a good future for yourselves through discipline, focus, and hard work.”

After much drilling in spellings, the competition produced winners. In the Primary School Category, Miss Biobaku Oluwaferami from Ebenezer Primary School emerged winner, while Miss Odeh Anabel of Vetland Primary School came 1st runner-up, and Master Akinduro Ezekiel from Gbeleyi Primary School took the 2nd runner-up position.

In the Secondary School Category, Master Taiwo Daniel from Ijaiye-Ojokoro High School clinched the top prize, with Miss Mustapha Victoria of Vetland Grammar School as 1st runner-up, and Miss Ismail Royhannah as 2nd runner-up.

The winners, who were decorated with medals and presented prizes, will represent Ojokoro LCDA at the state level. The competition ended on a joyous note, with cheers from pupils and teachers celebrating their colleagues’ and students' achievements.

In his closing remark, the Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Tajudeen Quadri, appreciated the Chairman for her unwavering support to the education sector. He commended the teachers and pupils for their commitment and urged the winners to aim for the grand prize at the state level — the prestigious “One-Day Governor” title.

Education once again took center stage in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area as the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, restated her administration’s commitment to raising the standard of learning across the council.

Hon. Rosiji gave the assurance on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Ebenezer Primary School during the official flag-off of the distribution of free customized exercise books and pens to pupils in all public schools within the LCDA.

According to her, the initiative was not only designed to welcome pupils back to school after the long break but also to motivate them to embrace learning with greater seriousness. She noted that education remains the most reliable key to unlocking success and described the exercise as both a relief to parents and a direct investment in the future of Ojokoro.

While applauding teachers for their tireless contributions to child development, the council boss assured them of continuous government support and hinted at fresh innovations that will soon be introduced into the school system to improve teaching and learning.

The Education Secretary of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Mr. Olalekan Jongbo, who attended the event, lauded Hon. Rosiji’s intervention, noting that it would ease the financial pressure on parents. He, however, appealed for additional support in the form of stipends to headteachers for school maintenance and called on councillors to strengthen ties with schools in their wards by visiting them more frequently.

Earlier, the Council Manager, Mrs. Akinola Mojisola, in her welcome remarks, commended the council chairman for complementing parents’ efforts while urging the pupils to be disciplined and focused in their studies.

The distribution exercise, which attracted wide excitement, saw the pupils expressing joy and appreciation, as many prayed for the council chairman for her generosity and concern for their education.
