BRIGHTER VISION FOR OJOKORO: LCDA, LIONS CLUB & LASUTH BRING FREE EYE CARE TO RESIDENTS

In a powerful show of compassion and partnership, the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has teamed up with the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) and the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to deliver a free eye care outreach that brought smiles and clearer vision to hundreds of residents.

Held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Council Secretariat, the outreach offered free eye tests, treatments, and consultations to residents from Ojokoro and neighboring communities. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, to improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Rosiji expressed heartfelt appreciation to the partners for supporting the Council’s drive toward healthier communities. She noted that vision health is often neglected but remains critical to productivity and general well-being.

“Our eyes are windows to the world, and ensuring their health is a duty we owe our people,” she said. “This outreach reflects our belief that governance must touch lives directly and meaningfully.”

Also speaking, Lioness Oluwakemi Abimbola Eribake, District Governor of Lions Club International, District 404B2, lauded Ojokoro LCDA for its openness to partnership and community-oriented leadership. She encouraged residents to join the Lions Club to further strengthen local humanitarian impact, suggesting the establishment of a new chapter within the LCDA.

For Lion Are Lekan Owolabi, Grant Administrator of LCIF, the outreach exemplified the Club’s mission to serve. He recalled the organization’s support for Ojokoro during the 2023 flood disaster and reaffirmed their readiness to continue partnering on life-changing initiatives.

The outreach drew an impressive crowd, with residents trooping in early to access the free services provided by LASUTH’s medical team, led by Prof. Bola Adekoya, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology. Many beneficiaries left with free eyeglasses, medications, and renewed gratitude.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Akinola Mojisola, the Council Manager, commended the Chairman for her dedication to community service and applauded the partners for their humanitarian spirit. She urged participants to make the most of the opportunity and prioritize regular health check-ups.

The event was also attended by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Usman Ipaye, members of the Lions Club International, medical professionals, and community leaders.

For many residents, the outreach was more than just a medical program. It was a symbol of hope and the Council’s continuing promise to make Ojokoro a healthier, happier community.

In a remarkable demonstration of support for community development and healthcare delivery, the Nigerian Navy has commissioned and handed over newly constructed Duty Cabins and the renovated Orile Agege Primary Health Care Centre to the Executive Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA, Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun. The handover ceremony, held on Thursday, 28th August 2025, signifies a major milestone in efforts to enhance healthcare services and improve community well-being.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Idowu Akinola expressed profound gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for its intervention, noting that the provision of Duty Cabins and the renovation of the healthcare facility would greatly enhance service delivery. He emphasized that healthcare workers would now enjoy improved accommodation, boosting their morale, efficiency, and response times. He further highlighted that the upgraded Orile Agege PHC, which serves thousands of residents within and beyond the community, is now better equipped to deliver essential services such as maternal and child care, immunization, and emergency response in a more enabling and patient-friendly environment.

Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Rear Admiral S.U. Gombe urged the LCDA and healthcare workers to make judicious use of the facilities to maximize their benefit to residents. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the infrastructure to ensure its longevity and effectiveness.

Community leaders, health officials, and residents in attendance expressed their appreciation to Rear Admiral S.A. Akinwande, an indigene of Orile Agege who facilitated the project through the Nigerian Navy. They praised his commitment to grassroots development and his dedication to the well-being of the people.

The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic handover of the renovated healthcare facilities and Duty Cabins to the Executive Chairman, management, and staff of the Orile Agege Primary Health Care Centre. The intervention is expected to strengthen the primary healthcare system, alleviate pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities, and ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible and affordable for all residents.

The event was graced by traditional rulers, political leaders, community representatives, and other stakeholders, who collectively applauded the initiative as a model of effective collaboration between government institutions and local communities.

Hon. Adebayo Faruk, Leader of the 6th Legislative Arm of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare delivery following an extensive oversight visit to primary health centres across the council. The visit, conducted on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, was aimed at assessing facilities and service delivery to ensure residents receive quality and affordable healthcare.

The oversight exercise, carried out in collaboration with the Medical Health Officer (MHO), Dr. Meya Adekunle Samuel, covered key healthcare facilities, including Ipaja Primary Health Centre, Ishefun Primary Health Centre, Cele/Apata Primary Health Centre, and Bada Ayobo Primary Health Centre. The inspection provided lawmakers with firsthand insight into the state of infrastructure, staffing, and healthcare services at these centres, which serve as vital lifelines for thousands of residents.

During the visit, Hon. Faruk and his legislative team toured consultation rooms, maternity wards, pharmacies, and waiting areas. They engaged healthcare workers to identify operational challenges and listened to feedback from patients about their experiences at the centres. The findings, according to Hon. Faruk, revealed areas requiring urgent government intervention to boost efficiency and service delivery.

“We are here to assess the state of our primary health centres and identify areas that require urgent government intervention,” Hon. Faruk stated. “Healthcare is a top priority for us, and we are committed to working with the executive arm to ensure our people have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.”

Hon. Faruk was joined on the oversight visit by other members of the legislative arm, including Hon. Bewaji Folake Afolabi, Deputy Leader and Councilor for Ward E; Hon. Akinyemi Rasaq Ajibola, Councilor for Ward C; Hon. Babayeju Samuel Oluwaseun, Councilor for Ward A; Hon. Adetayo Ayodele, Councilor for Ward B; and Mr. Sanusi, Clerk of the 6th Legislative Arm.

Dr. Meya Adekunle Samuel, who accompanied the lawmakers, commended the initiative and emphasized the need for modern medical equipment, improved infrastructure, and additional healthcare personnel to strengthen service delivery. He described the visit as an important step toward addressing pressing healthcare challenges in the LCDA.

The findings from the visit will be compiled into a detailed report to guide legislative deliberations and inform the executive arm on critical areas requiring immediate attention. Hon. Faruk assured residents that consistent monitoring of healthcare facilities would remain a priority for the legislative arm, adding that collaboration with the executive arm is crucial to delivering impactful governance and improving the quality of life for all residents.

The Executive Chairman of Iru Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos Nigeria, Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, has commended Capital Fields Investment Group Limited for its commitment to community development through strategic support to the LCDA's healthcare sector. This was disclosed in a press release made available by Mrs. Rotimi Bolanle, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Council.

According to the press release, Capital Fields Investment Group Limited demonstrated its dedication to giving back to society by donating a 7.5 KVA solar system inverter to the Primary Health Centre in the Council. This initiative ensures uninterrupted power supply, enabling the smooth operation of healthcare services. Additionally, the company extended support to maternal health by donating relief items to expectant mothers and cash gifts to new mothers within the community.

The Managing Directors of Capital Fields, Mrs. Ugochi Nnodi and Mr. Adekunle Ademiluyi, emphasized that the initiative reflects the company's commitment to improving the welfare of residents. The beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the generosity and goodwill shown by the donors.

Represented by the Vice Chairman, Prince Murisiku Olatunji Ajasa, Hon. Alabi reaffirmed the Council's readiness to continue partnering with well-meaning organizations to enhance the quality of life for residents of Iru Victoria Island LCDA.

The event which was hosted the Medical Officer of Health of the Council Dr. Oladipupo Simiat was attended by other management staff of the LCDA, health workers, community leaders, and dignitaries from the community, highlighting the significance of the partnership.
