OJOKORO, LAGOS — The 2026 Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (LSCDAC) Annual Congress held in Ojokoro LCDA on Thursday with the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, receiving an Award of Excellence for her performance in grassroots development.

The congress, hosted by the Ojokoro Community Development Committee (CDC) at its hall on Temple Road, was themed “Nigeria at Crossroads: Innovative Solutions Towards Security Challenges in Our Communities.”

Rosiji, while receiving the award, expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a call to greater service and renewed commitment to the people. She dedicated the honour to the people of Ojokoro LCDA, saying the recognition reflected the collective support and partnership that had contributed to the administration’s development efforts.

In her goodwill message, the Chairman stressed the importance of community participation in governance, describing Community Development Committees and Associations as a vital link between government and residents.

She highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among government, community leaders, traditional institutions, youth groups and residents in tackling security and other grassroots challenges.

The Chairman of LSCDAC, Alhaji Azeez Hazmat, in his remarks, commended Rosiji’s longstanding involvement in community development, noting that she had served as CDC auditor before becoming Council Chairman and had remained actively engaged in community affairs.

The Ojokoro CDC Chairman, Barr. Samuel Alabi, also received an Award of Excellence for his leadership of the committee.

Alabi commended the Council Chairman’s performance and her continued support for CDC activities, particularly her decision to support the hosting of the congress in Ojokoro.

He described the gathering as an opportunity for community development stakeholders to exchange ideas and seek practical responses to security challenges confronting communities.

The event attracted community development delegates, political leaders, council officials and other stakeholders, including representatives of Hon. Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo, Member of the House of Representatives, as well as other prominent figures from the local government area.

The congress ended with a reception that featured entertainment and social interaction among delegates and guests.

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has charged young people in the area to reject cultism, drug abuse, violence and other destructive influences, warning that such activities could derail their educational aspirations and destroy their future.

Rosiji gave the warning on Thursday while presenting free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students and youths at the Ojokoro LCDA Secretariat.

The Chairman urged the beneficiaries to see the opportunity as a responsibility to work towards a better future, rather than merely as government assistance.

“This is an opportunity, not merely a gift. Please make the most of it. Study diligently, prepare adequately and listen to your teachers and mentors,” she told the students.

She particularly cautioned them against examination malpractice, drug abuse, cultism, violence and other negative influences capable of jeopardising their education and future.

According to her, young people must understand that while their circumstances may influence where they begin their journey, they should not allow those circumstances to determine where they eventually end up.

“Your background may explain where you started, but it does not have to determine where you will finish,” she said.

The council boss further challenged the beneficiaries to embrace discipline, hard work, knowledge and perseverance, stressing that youths are not merely leaders of tomorrow but important partners in the development of Ojokoro today.

The Chairman’s warning came as her administration provided free GCE forms to indigent students, in what she described as an effort to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent young people from pursuing their educational aspirations.

She recalled that the council had earlier provided free JAMB forms to eligible youths, describing both interventions as part of her administration’s broader commitment to education and human capital development.

Rosiji also urged the beneficiaries to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to their communities, while promising to reward beneficiaries who possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a way of encouraging responsible civic participation and patriotism among the youths.

Earlier, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Daisi Banjoko, commended the Chairman for what he described as her people-oriented and developmental approach to governance.

Banjoko urged the beneficiaries to justify the opportunity by studying hard and coming out in flying colours, adding that there were still more opportunities ahead for young people under the administration.

Also speaking, the Supervisor for Education and Library Services, Hon. Busari, urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture through academic excellence and responsible conduct.

For many of the students, the intervention represents more than assistance with examination registration. It is an opportunity to take another step towards their educational goals and a reminder that the choices they make today can either open doors to their future or close them.

In a bold move to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare, the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has successfully sponsored the enrollment of 1,000 residents into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (LASHMA).

The beneficiaries were enrolled during the Third Phase (Grand Finale) of the exercise held on Wednesday 8th July, bringing to a successful close the Council's three-phase health insurance intervention aimed at providing vulnerable residents with one year of uninterrupted access to healthcare services at accredited hospitals across Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Rosiji reaffirmed her administration's commitment to prioritising the wellbeing of residents, stressing that access to quality healthcare should not be determined by one's financial status. She noted that beneficiaries from the first and second phases are already enjoying the benefits of the scheme and urged the new enrollees to make good use of the opportunity by embracing preventive healthcare and avoiding self-medication.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman and Supervisor for Health, Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, described the initiative as another demonstration of the administration's people-centred approach to governance and commended the Executive Chairman for investing in programmes that directly improve the lives of residents.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, who was represented by, Miss Tayo Adetoro, lauded the Council Chairman for supporting the State Government's universal health coverage agenda. She also educated beneficiaries on the benefits of the scheme, enrollment procedures, available healthcare packages, and customer support channels, while announcing plans to establish an enrollment desk within the LCDA to further improve access to health insurance services.

The event also featured an interactive session where participants received answers to questions on enrollment, hospital selection, and access to healthcare services under the scheme.

In his vote of thanks, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, commended Hon. Rosiji for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of residents and staff, particularly the sponsorship of 400 temporary staff into the health insurance scheme.

  The programme attracted prominent stakeholders, including APC leaders, council legislators, traditional and religious leaders, CDC and CDAs executive market leaders, youth groups, women leaders, and residents from across the seven wards of Ojokoro LCDA.

In a renewed effort to strengthen internal security and prevent criminal infiltration of commercial transport operations, Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has intensified measures aimed at identifying and monitoring all motorcycle and tricycle operators within its jurisdiction.

The security-driven initiative was reinforced at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, June 11, at the Community Development Committee (CDC) Hall, Temple Road, Ojokoro and convened by the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji.

The meeting brought together leaders of commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle operators, community stakeholders, and security agencies, with discussions focused on strengthening intelligence gathering, improving operator identification, and blocking possible security loopholes within the transport sector.

Addressing participants, Hon. Rosiji warned that the council would no longer tolerate a situation where unidentified individuals operate within the transport system, stressing that such gaps pose serious security risks to residents.

She emphasized that all operators must be properly registered and integrated into a verifiable communication structure that allows for effective monitoring and rapid response in the event of security threats.

According to her, a comprehensive database of all motorcycle and tricycle operators will be developed, capturing critical details such as identities, residential addresses, and vehicle registration information.

She further stated that any group of operators that cannot be properly identified or accounted for risks suspension or outright ban from operating within the council area.

Chairman of the Security Committee and Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ojokoro Branch, Pastor C.G. Coker, backed the initiative, describing it as a necessary step to block criminal elements from exploiting the transport sector.

He called for compulsory registration of all operators, strict documentation of plate numbers and addresses, regulation of operational hours, and the introduction of uniforms or reflective jackets with clear identification numbers to enhance visibility and accountability.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Alhaji Adeyemi, raised concerns over the presence of unknown individuals operating within some parks, warning that such gaps could be exploited by criminals to blend into the system.

He stressed that without proper identification, it becomes difficult for security agencies and union leaders to distinguish legitimate operators from criminal elements.

Security agencies present at the meeting reinforced the urgency of the initiative.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) Commandant, Randle, urged transport unions to strengthen cooperation with security operatives by providing timely intelligence and refusing to shield offenders.

Representatives of the Nigeria Police Force commended motorcycle operators for their past cooperation, noting that information supplied by union members had contributed to the arrest of suspected criminals and recovery of illegal weapons within Ojokoro and urged them to continue in such gesture.

The police, however, warned that tricycle operators must tighten internal monitoring, as criminal elements have been observed exploiting tricycles to target unsuspecting commuters.

At the end of the meeting, stakeholders unanimously agreed on key security measures, including compulsory registration of all operators, creation of a centralized database, mandatory use of identifiable uniforms, and strict enforcement of valid motorcycle plate numbers across Ojokoro LCDA.

Residents of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have expressed excitement over the imminent completion of a modern 40-bed hospital project facilitated by the Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Sen. Idiat Oluranti Adebule.

The Senator on Monday June 1st, visited Ojokoro LCDA to inspect the healthcare facility located at Omikunle Bus Stop area of Alagbado in Ojokoro LCDA. She was warmly received by the Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. (Bar.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, alongside members of the council administration and other stakeholders.

The hospital project, being executed under the Federal Government's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiative, is currently at an advanced stage of completion and is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery for residents of Ojokoro and neighbouring communities.

Welcoming the Senator and her entourage, Hon. Rosiji praised Sen. Adebule for facilitating the landmark healthcare project, describing it as a major intervention that would positively impact thousands of residents beyond the boundaries of Ojokoro LCDA.

The council chairman also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration's commitment to infrastructure and social development continues to yield tangible benefits across communities.

Accompanied by their respective teams, Adebule and the council chairman toured the facility, which comprises a multi-storey hospital complex and a separate bungalow designated as staff quarters.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, the Senator applauded residents of the host community for their cooperation and peaceful disposition throughout the construction period. She noted that the supportive environment provided by the people contributed significantly to the project's smooth execution.

Sen. Adebule assured residents that more developmental projects would be attracted to the area, while urging citizens to continue playing their roles in supporting government initiatives and fostering community development.

With the facility nearing completion, anticipation continues to grow among residents who eagerly await the commencement of operations at the hospital, which is expected to enhance access to quality healthcare services and reduce pressure on existing medical facilities within the axis.

Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, presented free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms to deserving students across the council.

The impactful initiative, held at the council secretariat, shows the administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting education, youth development, and inclusive opportunities for all.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Rosiji described education as the most powerful tool for transforming lives and unlocking human potential in a rapidly evolving world. She noted that the initiative was carefully designed not only to ease the financial burden on parents but also to position young people for a brighter and more self-reliant future.

“No child should be denied access to education because of financial constraints,” she affirmed, stressing that the programme reflects her administration’s dedication to investing in human capital development.

Representing the beneficiaries, Master Naheem Oluwatobiloba expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman for the life-changing initiative and the additional academic support through coaching. Also speaking, Miss Aishat AbdulYekeen commended the Chairman’s motherly support and dedication to students’ welfare, promising that beneficiaries would justify the confidence reposed in them through outstanding performance.

In his goodwill message, the Supervisor for Education and Library Services, Hon. Busari Nasiru, advised the students to remain disciplined and manage their time effectively in preparation for the examination.
