IGBOGBO-BAIYEKU LCDA CHAIRMAN LEADS TRAFFIC REFORM, RESTORES ORDER ON MAJOR ROADS
The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has taken decisive steps to ease traffic flow and restore orderliness on major roads within the council area. Through a collaborative effort with transport stakeholders, the Chairman has demonstrated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the comfort, safety, and convenience of road users.
According to a press release from the Office of the Executive Chairman, the intervention began on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, when Chairman Aroyewun held a strategic engagement with key representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), as well as leaders of the tricycle (Keke Napep) and motorcycle riders’ unions. Also present at the meeting were Hon. Wasiu Olowu, Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman; Mr. Dare Igbasan, Chief Security Officer of the Joint Task Force in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA; and the Chief Executive Officer of Marlex Limited, who contributed valuable insights to the discussions.
The meeting was convened to tackle the growing issue of gridlock and disorderly conduct by commercial vehicles and motorcycles along critical routes in the council area. Chairman Aroyewun firmly addressed the stakeholders, emphasizing his administration’s zero tolerance for road chaos and its dedication to prioritizing the welfare of road users. "The comfort, safety, and convenience of our people must remain a top priority of this administration," the Chairman said.
Responding to the Chairman’s concerns, the transport leaders pledged full cooperation and assured him of their commitment to restoring sanity to the roads. Immediate corrective measures were agreed upon during the dialogue, with all parties promising swift action.
By Friday, 22nd August 2025, the results of these efforts were evident. During a visit to the Igbogbo market parking space, Chairman Aroyewun observed visible compliance. Commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles that had previously obstructed the roads had been relocated to designated parking areas, creating a freer and more orderly environment for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The swift compliance showcases the success of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding between the government and stakeholders. Chairman Aroyewun expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining this spirit of cooperation to ensure peace, order, and continued development within Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.
