LAGOS PREPARES FOR HISTORIC ÌSÈSE DAY CELEBRATION

Lagos State is gearing up for an extraordinary cultural milestone as over three million residents are expected to join the 2025 Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day festivities on Wednesday, August 20. Declared a public holiday by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the day is dedicated to celebrating Yoruba traditions, spirituality, and ancestral heritage, reaffirming Lagos' commitment to preserving indigenous values while promoting unity and inclusivity.

Hon. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Arts, Culture, and Tourism, described Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day as a vibrant expression of Yoruba identity and spirituality. “This celebration is not just a holiday; it is an opportunity for millions of Lagosians to reconnect with their roots, honour their ancestors, and experience the beauty of our cultural practices,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of the event in defining Lagos' role as a cultural hub and a beacon of heritage preservation.

The celebration will feature a rich lineup of activities, including prayers, rituals, processions, and cultural showcases dedicated to the worship of Òrìṣà (deities). With government offices, schools, and businesses closing for the day, residents will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the festivities. The Lagos State Government has urged all participants to celebrate peacefully, ensuring the day remains a unifying festival for people of all backgrounds.

Hon. Aregbe highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it transcends mere festivities to become a powerful statement of history, faith, and cultural pride. “Lagos continues to lead the way in promoting inclusivity, where every heritage finds its place,” he concluded.
