SUNDAY IGBOHO APOLOGIZES TO OONI OF IFE, SEEKS INTERVENTION ON SECURITY WATCHLIST
The visit, which drew a large gathering of Yoruba traditional rulers, chiefs, and supporters, marked a turning point in Igboho’s relationship with the revered monarch. Speaking at the Ooni’s palace, Igboho admitted to past mistakes and expressed deep remorse for his previous criticisms of the Ooni.
"I have offended the Ooni in the past, and I am here to seek his forgiveness. Whoever I may have offended should please forgive me. I never knew Kabiyesi would honour me in this manner," Igboho stated emotionally, adding that no one dared insult a royal father.
Igboho revealed that during his imprisonment in the Benin Republic, he was astonished to learn of the Ooni’s efforts in securing his release despite his earlier criticisms. He appealed to Oba Ogunwusi to use his influence to facilitate the removal of his name from the security watchlist and to assist in unfreezing his bank accounts.
"My priority remains the security of Yorubaland. Our people are being killed, and we cannot continue like this. Kabiyesi, please help us to make this possible," Igboho pleaded.
The event also saw commendations from other Yoruba monarchs, including the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti, Oba Abdulmumini Orisagbemi, and the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi, who praised Igboho for his humility and assured him that Yoruba traditional rulers had forgiven him.
In his response, the Ooni of Ife urged Igboho and his supporters to embrace patience and humility, describing these virtues as the foundation of true leadership. The Ooni disclosed that he had held private meetings with former President Muhammadu Buhari concerning Igboho’s case and expressed gratitude that Igboho was still alive.
"You are my son, and I am not angry with you. You are a pride to the Yoruba race. Some advised me against receiving you in Ife, but I told them what you are doing is not for yourself alone; it is for the good of our people," the Ooni said.
He assured Igboho that all issues concerning his name on the wanted list and his frozen bank accounts would be addressed, calling for unity among Yorubas to advance the region's progress. The Ooni also praised President Bola Tinubu for demonstrating the Yoruba Omoluabi ethos in his leadership and expressed confidence in his support for Yoruba causes.
The visit was celebrated as a moment of reconciliation and unity, with calls for collective efforts to ensure the security and development of Yorubaland.
