Nollywood Actor, Ernest Asuzu is Dead

Popular Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu, died on Tuesday at the age of 37. His wife, Jennifer Asuzu confirmed the news of his death to the media.

His wife said the actor slumped on Tuesday evening and never woke up.

The actor came down with a stroke in 2015 which affected his speech. He was also bedridden for three years. This affected his acting career and he was off the screen for many years.

In his last interview published in December 2020, Asuzu said his problem was spiritual. He was also planning a return to Nollywood and music after an eight-year hiatus.

Asuzu began his acting career in the ’90s and rose to prominence after he starred in the 1997 Nollywood classic, ‘Rituals’

Apart from acting, he was also a musician with the name El Cream.

He is survived by his wife and two children

BUHARI APPOINTS NEW SERVICE CHIEFS AS THE FORMER BOW OUT

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday announced the replacement of Nigeria’s service chiefs.

In the statement announcing their replacement, Femi Adesina said Buhari has accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service.

“PMB appoints new Service Chiefs. Maj Gen LEO Irabor, CDS, Maj Gen I Attahiru, Army, Rear Adm AZ Gambo, Navy, AVM IO Alao, Air Force. He congratulates outgoing Service Chiefs on efforts to bring enduring peace to the country,” Adesina tweeted.

Irabor replaces Defense Chief Abayomi Olonisakin, while Army Chief Tukur Buratai is succeeded by Attahiru.

Gambo would now head the Navy, replacing Navy Chief Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas while Alao takes over from Air Chief Sadique Abubakar.

The replaced service chiefs were appointed by Buhari in 2015 after he was elected to his first presidential term but there has been a widespread clamour for their sack as Nigeria continued to wallow in security challenges.

Buhari said the outgoing service chiefs had an “overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country.” A position many critics would disapprove.

With panic gripping the country over the full linkage of the National Identification Number (NIN) with SIMs, the federal government on Tuesday, January 19, insisted that the February 9 deadline still stands.

Speaking on the development, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) said the telecoms operators have been told to shut down SIMs not linked with NIN after the last day.

But NCC, through the Technical Implementation Committee (TIC) under the Ministerial Task Force (MTF), said there is no going back on its decision.

It, however, expressed satisfaction over the turnout and "impressive response" of Nigerians as 47.8 million subscribers have submitted their NIN to their respective service providers, Daily Sun reports.

Part of the statement issued by NCC director of public affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde, read:

““So far, a total of 47.8 million NINs have been collected by the mobile operators. At an average of 3 to 4 SIMs per subscriber.

"This means many millions will be linked up before the deadline in February 2021.”

According to the electoral commission, this will help to tackle the problem of underage voting in some parts of the country.

Speaking with The Punch newspaper, one of the national commissioners.  at INEC whose name was not given made this disclosure, adding that the final decision would soon be reached and officially announced to the public.

The Revered clergy man made this declaration during the Annual Thanksgiving Service for 2021 held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, National Headquarters, Ebute Meta Lagos Nigeria.

Adeboye assured his congregation to put their mind at rest concerning the Covid-19 virus but he cautioned them not to be reckless, that they should follow the safety guidelines issued by the Authorities concern.
