AYOMIDE AROGUNDADE: THE WOMAN WHO TURNED COMPASSION INTO A CAREER OF IMPACT
As award-winning social worker and community development professional marks birthday, her remarkable journey reflects a life dedicated to lifting others
For many people, a birthday is simply a celebration of another year. For Ayomide Hope Arogundade, it is an opportunity to celebrate a journey shaped by compassion, service and an enduring commitment to humanity.
As she marks her birthday on Sunday, August 16, 2026, Ayomide stands out as an award-winning community development professional and social worker whose career has been defined by one central philosophy: people matter, and no community should be left behind.
With over Nine years of experience in public service and community development, Ayomide has built an impressive profile around grassroots mobilisation, social intervention, stakeholder engagement, project coordination and support for vulnerable members of society.
She currently serves as a Community Development Officer with the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, where she is posted to Agbado-Oke-Odo LCDA.
But beyond the official title is a woman whose professional journey has consistently taken her closer to the people.
A CAREER BUILT AROUND PEOPLE
Ayomide's commitment to social service extends far beyond the confines of her official responsibilities.
Since 2020, she has served as a Community-Based Targeting Team Leader under the National Social Safety Nets Project, leading field enumerators, coordinating beneficiary data collection, supporting grant distribution programmes and ensuring quality assurance during social register exercises.
The role has placed her at the intersection of government intervention and the everyday realities of vulnerable households — a position requiring competence, leadership, patience and, above all, empathy.
Her work with Community Development Associations has also seen her coordinate grassroots activities, monitor community projects, prepare reports and support youth empowerment and skills-acquisition programmes.
In many ways, Ayomide has become a bridge between government programmes and the communities they are designed to serve.
HER HUMANITARIAN JOURNEY STARTED LONG BEFORE THE AWARDS
What makes Ayomide's story even more compelling is that her passion for helping others is not a recent development born out of professional advancement.
Her humanitarian footprints stretch across several years and organisations.
She has volunteered with Oyiza Orphanage Homes in Ibadan, Little Saints Orphanage in Abule-Egba, Heart of Gold Hospice in Surulere, Irede Foundation, Lagos, and Lagos Food Bank Initiative.
Through these organisations, she has participated in beneficiary registration, outreach, community mobilisation, food distribution and initiatives supporting vulnerable persons, including people living with disabilities.
These experiences have given Ayomide an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged members of society.
For her, social work is therefore more than a profession.
It is a calling.
FROM MICROBIOLOGY TO SOCIAL WORK
Interestingly, Ayomide's academic journey did not begin in the field of social work.
She earned a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Oduduwa University, but her growing passion for community development and human welfare eventually led her into a new professional direction.
She subsequently obtained a Master in Social Work from Lagos State University (LASU) and went further to become a Chartered Social Worker (CSW).
She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria (C-ISOWN).
Her transition from microbiology to social work tells a story of purpose — a willingness to move beyond conventional career paths in pursuit of work that aligns with her passion for people and community development.
WHEN SERVICE EARNS RECOGNITION
For someone who has spent years quietly working behind the scenes, recognition has inevitably followed.
Ayomide is a recipient of several awards, including an Award of Excellence from the Social Protection Coordinating Department, Lagos State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
She was also honoured as Best Team Lead in the Community-Based Targeting Team in Lagos State by the Social Protection Coordinating Department, an award that recognises her leadership, commitment and effectiveness in coordinating field operations.
At the grassroots level, her contribution earned her an Award of Excellence in Community Service from the Agbado/Oke-Odo Community Development Committee.
She has also received an Award of Impact, among other recognitions.
Taken together, the awards tell a story of a professional whose work has resonated across different levels — from government programmes to grassroots communities.
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE PROFESSIONAL
Away from official duties, community meetings and humanitarian activities, Ayomide is a woman of faith, friendship and enterprise.
A devoted Christian and Deaconess with the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), she combines her professional responsibilities with her spiritual commitments and entrepreneurial interests.
She is also the CEO of Mide Apparel, revealing an enterprising side of her personality beyond her career in public service and social development.
Those who know her also describe her as a core community person with a large heart, someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people and contributing to the wellbeing of others.
And despite the demands of her profession, Ayomide knows how to unwind. When she is not working, serving or building her business, she enjoys relaxing and spending quality time with friends.
A BIRTHDAY, A MILESTONE, A CONTINUING MISSION
As Ayomide celebrates her birthday, her story represents much more than a professional biography.
It is the story of a woman who has repeatedly chosen service over self, people over convenience and impact over applause.
From orphanage homes to community development initiatives, from social protection programmes to food distribution, from grassroots mobilisation to professional social work, her journey has consistently been about touching lives.
Her academic qualifications have strengthened her professional foundation. Her awards have acknowledged her contributions. Her public service has given her a platform.
But perhaps her most valuable achievement is less tangible — the number of people who have encountered kindness, support, opportunity or hope through her work.
As she begins another chapter, Ayomide's journey is a reminder that true impact is not always measured by the position one occupies, but by the lives one touches along the way.
And for a woman who has made service a defining feature of her journey, there is every reason to believe that her best chapters are still ahead.
From all of us at 247News, Happy Birthday to an award-winning social worker, a passionate community development professional, a humanitarian and a woman whose heart for humanity continues to make a difference.
